Some April Applique

As I said before, I have been appliqueing my little heart out.

This is block one of Pearl Pereira's new Baltimore Halloween BOM, the Owl. I tried using Pearl's method on this block, and have to say that for small concave and convex pieces, I really prefer my old standby, needle turn using a sharp toothpick from the Cracker Barrel Restaurant.

I did a few modifications to the block by adding the buttons and watch chain to the owl's rather plain vest.

Block two is a huge basket of fruit covered with a spider web and very complicated, so I'm working on it a bit more slowly and I jumped ahead to block three, Spiders and Bats.

This block was a complete disaster using the freezer paper on the back and fold the edges over method. So much that I had to redo the wings using my own fabrics. All in all, I think it turned out pretty cute. This particular kit gives "just enough" fabric for the appliques without a whole lot left over, so when I mess things up, I have to go stash-diving. So sad to have to fondle all of my fabrics.

Oh my word Jan, those blocks are both just adorable. I have to admit, I also find that needle turn is my favourite method of applique - you just can't go wrong with the old-school methods.

I just bought one of Pearl's patterns on Saturday at the Denver Quilt Show: Pearl's Garden. Don't know when I'll get to it, but, boy, is it cute!

Hi Jan! Long time, no talk. :)
I love this BOM. Saw it on your blog the other day, and was tempted to get it, then today someone at my quilting group said she just started it too. I'm wondering which shop you purchased yours from, as I love the colors.
I think she got hers from Amidon, which is where Pearl teaches a lot.
Your applique is awesome!

What the heck kinda comment did I leave before with "wow?" I mean, it's okay but kinda lazy. I wasn't even sick then. Sheesh. Well, I still think it's a wowzer but visually trippy and amazing, too.

Sometimes I'm just so not cool. Lets not tell anyone though, ok? hee.

Ahh gee, I can't get anything right. I like 'em both but I was referring to the coolness of the bats and spiders. What an embarassment I am to myself!!!

I love your Halloween BOM blocks! I have been thinking about getting the pattern but think it would be easier as a BOM. None of my LQSs are doing this one so I'd love to know which shop you are getting yours from. I especially love the fabric used for the owl; it's just perfect.
